The story

Oiling the body before a bath is one of the oldest habits in this country, and it survives because it works. This is that ritual in a bottle: sesame oil infused slowly with seven botanicals until the oil carries their character rather than merely containing them.

Vetiver and javetri give it the cool, grounding top note. Manjistha and wild turmeric are the traditional skin herbs. Dashmool and anantmool are what make it feel like a preparation rather than a scented oil.

It is silky rather than heavy, so it spreads far and does not sit on the skin waiting to mark your clothes. Use it for a long massage when you have the time, or as a straight moisturiser on damp skin when you do not.

It replaces a shelf of heavily formulated creams with one bottle you can read the whole label of.

The ritual

  1. For a massage

    Take a generous amount and work over the body in slow, comfortable strokes. Give yourself the few quiet minutes; that is half of what this is for.

  2. As a moisturiser

    After a shower, apply a small amount to skin that is still slightly damp and massage until it disappears.

  3. Seal it in

    Damp skin holds the oil better than dry skin does, so do not towel off completely first.

  4. Keep it closed

    Store away from direct sun with the cap tight, and it will hold its aroma.

Questions

What exactly am I getting?

This one is 200 ml, 24 months from the day it is made, and it is dry skin, daily oiling and post-shower moisturising. Every batch is prepared by hand in Heul Valley.

Is it really made from farm-grown ingredients?

Yes. The herbs, turmeric and milk come from our own farms and neighbouring households in Heul Valley. We buy nothing from commodity wholesalers, which is also why our batches are small and occasionally sell out.

Will it suit sensitive skin?

There is no synthetic fragrance, no sulphate and no paraben in anything we make, which is what usually causes trouble. That said, botanicals are still active ingredients, so patch-test on your inner arm and wait a day before you use anything new on your face.

Why does the colour or smell vary between orders?

Because the harvest varies. Turmeric grown in a wetter year is a deeper ochre, and the honey changes with whatever is flowering. We do not correct any of it with dye or fragrance, so a little variation between batches is the honest result.

How long does delivery take?

Orders leave our workshop within two working days. Metros usually receive in three to five days, the rest of India in five to eight. Everything ships plastic-free, so nothing arrives wrapped in what we spent years keeping out of our products.

Can I return it?

Unopened items can come back within fourteen days for a full refund. If something arrives damaged or turns out faulty, write to us with a photograph and we will replace it, opened or not.
